Fabio Ghiotto received a M.Sc. degree in Biology at the University of Milan in 1989, a Ph.D. in Genetics at the University of Pavia in 1994 and a Ph.D. in Immunology in 2001 at the University of Genoa. After his M.Sc. he worked first in the Regional Center of Human Genetics, Ospedali Galliera, Genova, and then at the Giannina Gaslini Institute, Genova, with Dr. Vito Pistoia, where he worked on autoimmunity and tumors of the immunological system until 1996. In March 1996 he moved to the Rheumathology and Allergology-Clinical Immunology Division, Department of Medicine, North Shore University Hospital-NYU School of Medicine, Manhasset, New York, USA, led by Dr. Nicholas Chiorazzi, where he focused on Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL). In late 1997 he moved back to Genoa to the laboratory of Prof. Carlo Enrico Grossi at the Human Anatomy Section, Department of Experimental Medicine, University of Genoa, where he worked, and still currently does, on the biology of CLL and, more recently, on the functional characterization of the SH3BGR protein family.
